Yard Work

I needed a quick gift yesterday,
so I put together this little wall hanging.

I had some glitter glue that I used to outline "God Bless"
and to add some all over 'sparkle'.

My BIG project for the weekend
(the first of many this spring/summer)
was putting in a new flower bed.
And I am quite proud to say
that I did it without the help of any of the Smith
men in my household.

I'm still going to add more pop's of color,
but considering it was 90 degrees this weekend,
digging up all the soil,
fertilizing it,
planting everything,
and putting the edging in,
this was all I could muster up.
It took me 4 hours to complete this project.
I am really happy with how it came out.

A close up of few of my 'interesting' plant containers:

This idea came from a shop I visit every Saturday morning.
I LOVE the gals in that shop.

And here is some basil planted in an old minnow bucket

And how about some pretty yellow flowers in an old coffee pot?

And a gal has to brag when she can put edging in like this

Sorry for the little dirt clumps.  You would not BELIEVE how dry the soil is.
I am starting to do the rain dance.
Heck...I'll even put the proper dress on if I have to.
It's so dry right now that it even hurts to walk in the yard with no shoes on.
Hhhhmm....maybe if I dance around the yard naked, it will
scare Mother Nature so much that the clouds explode.
At this point, I'm willing to give it a try.

So inbetween graduation parties, races and gatherings,
I was able to complete this little project.
Since it was so hot out, I didn't get any painting done,
but this coming weekend looks to be perfect painting weather,
so hopefully I'll have some kitchen pictures to show you soon.

Enjoy your day!

Make A Difference Monday

Memorial Day

A great day to make a difference.

Here are some sites for you to visit.
I'm not going to say which one I partake in.
I want you to make your own choice.
Any of these sites will help you make a difference.

"Got your six" in the military means
"I got your back"
Got Your 6 is a campaign that unites the entertainment industry with top non-profit organizations to change the conversation in America so that veterans and military families are viewed as leaders and assets that will reinvigorate our communities and our nation.
(verbiage courtesty of the Got Your Six website)

A site that shows citizens how to volunteer to help
support the military community

This is an all-round great site
with links to several other sites of  your choosing
in regards to how you would like to volunteer.

These are just a few sites that I thought you would appreciate.

My sincerest
to all my family and friends
who have served,
or who are currently serving.
I do appreciate you.

Love to all & God Bless

Make A Difference Monday

I am so sorry.
I let my little adventure
of Make A Difference Monday slide.

Well...time to pick up the pieces on that.
I may only be able to post a quote,
but I do promise
that I will have something uplifting
for your Monday reading.

So what brought me back to this?
Well, I was working in my yard today.
I was the only one outside all day,
so I had my much needed
'alone' time.
I started pondering my life
and where it's headed....
what I need to change....
where I want to go....
how I want to live my life....
if this were my last day on earth,
have I lived my life so people will remember
the good things I did?
(yes...I really do think about that)
...all while playing in the dirt.

I was thinking of our previous pastor from church.
There was a quote he always shared:

"I am only one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything,
but I can do something.
And I will not let what I cannot do
interfere with what I can do."
~Edward Everett Hale~

I love this quote.

I am such an 'all or nothing' person.
This quote helps simplify life,
don't you think?

I don't have to do everything.
But I can do something.

So today,
today was for me.
(Yes, I skipped church...thank you, Lisa, for picking Twyla up for me!)
And it helped me get my head back on straight.
I will keep this quote in the forefront of my mind
to remind me I don't have to 'do it all'.
I can do that small something,
if that's all the time and/or energy I have.

I can't be every one's leaning post,
but I can be there for the person that needs me the most at the moment.
I can't always keep my house spotless,
but I can take 15 minutes to take care of the worst problem spot.
I can't always take 30 minutes to exercise at one time,
but I can do 10 minutes here or there.

If I break things down,
I can take care of the most important things,
and handle the rest later,
if the day is too much to tackle it all.
The point is to do something instead of nothing.

Here's a (((BIG HUG))) for all of you!
I hope you have a fabulous Monday!

Friday Night Sew In Happenings

I know you're dying to see what I got done last night.
After all....
I talked real big about being all ready to
'get my sew on'
and even mentioned taking my bra off. it is folks......

I got the binding sewn on my little mug rug I made at my sister's
a couple weeks ago.
And I'm thinking I need to stop drinking and sewing.
My quilt lines are horrible!

So....I'm sure you're thinking,
"What happened to all that big talk?"
Well, here's the deal...
I put a movie in my dvd player.
The Vow
That's all she wrote right there folks.
I was glued to the TV.

But hey...
I finished something,
so I will be proud of that.

So here's a couple items I made when I was at my sisters
a while ago.

A zipper pouch

And another zipper pouch with an
embroidered & painted hedgehog
('s the little hedgehog that's in my banner above.  I finally did something with it!)

And here is what I currently have in the works:
Getting ready to repaint my kitchen.
Buh Bye roosters...
hello fresh color!

Once I'll is said and done,
I'll share pictures of the
'new' look.

Here's another sneak peak of the fabric I picked
out to make my curtains:

I think the new look for my kitchen is going to be
fun, bright and gorgeous.
But the main thing.....
CHEAP. know....I am.....

More to come
and if I get some kahona's,
this kitchen will be done by next weekend!

Friday Night Sew-In..... tonight!

Handmade by Heidi

Make sure to go here to sign up!

I shipped my hubby off to work for the night,
stripped off my work clothes,
put my shorts & t-shirt on
(I may have taken my bra off too....IT'S COOL!! I'm alone!  LOL)
And am now seated in my sewing room
ready to 'get my sew on'.

I have been missing my little private palace.
I think she's glad to have me back.

Looking forward to seeing what you all have worked on!

I Received an Award!

Hey Everybody!

I had the NICEST surprise the other day!

Amy from Amy Made That
sent me this nice little award.

Liebster Blog Award

You really need to check out her blog.
This gal totally puts me to shame in
the world of creation.
I barely get my shower in
and she's sewing her little heart out.
She also has an adorable little shop on Etsy.
You can find it here.

So thank you so much for making my day, Amy!!

I have to pass this on to 5 other bloggers.
How sweet is that?

I'll start with my first one.
Of course,
it's my sister, Sarah, from
 Be Forever Grateful.
She designed this adorable pouch herself.
Yes, I am a proud sister!

Second, I have to go with my very dear friend, Linda.
You can read about her at Lawson Place.
I have a very special place in my heart for this gal.
In August of 2014 my sister and I are heading to Scotland.
Meeting Linda face to face is the first thing on our list!
Make sure to check her blog out for her beautiful pictures
of England & Scotland
(a gal after my own heart!)
And her beautiful sewing projects like this Dresden pillow she made.

The next blog I would like to pass this lovely award on to
is Linda from Sew Nicely.
I had the pleasure of receiving
a nice package in the mail from a swap
Linda and I were both in.
She made me a mug rug
and some thread catchers (which I LOVE)
and sent along some other goodies as well.
Make sure to check her out for her beautiful sewing projects
and her wonderful pictures from Ireland.
(another place to go so I can cross it off my bucket list!!)

For the fourth award,
I would like to share it with Cindy.
You can find her blog at
Tops to Treasures.
Cindy is always so thoughtful
and leaves such sweet comments on my posts.
I'm hoping including her in this award will put a big smile on her face.
And check out these beautiful pillows she made!

The fifth and final award is going to
Elisa of Postpartum Quilter.
I've had the honor of being in a couple swaps she's been in,
though we've never had each other as a partner yet!
But she is a sweetie and very deserving of this lovely award.
I love this pouch she made!

To all of you Liebster winners,
I hope you take pride in receiving this!
You can see the instructions for
passing this award on at the bottom of this post.

And thank you again, Amy, for sharing it with me!

Believe it or not, I'll be making a post this weekend
with some of the things I've been up to.
So come back soon, y'all!
These are the rules of the Liebster Blog Award:

3. Copy and paste the blog award on your blog.
4. Present the Liebster Blog Award to 5 blogs of 200 followers or less who you feel deserve to be noticed.
