Penny Pincher Coin Purse

Just a quick post this morning.

I wanted to share this adorable coin purse I made
using Melissa's pattern
(100billionstars)

Isn't it adorable?

I'm participating in a pouch swap and thought
this would be a nice little surprise gift for my parter.
I'll put this inside the pouch I'm making for her.
(more on that later)

If you are intersted in making this coin purse,
you can get the instructions

Enjoy!

Texting While Sewing

Well I did it.
I entered
And I am as nervous as all get out.
I try to keep my sewing simple,
because I work so many hours
and by the time I'm done with work,
making supper, doing dishes, keeping laundry/housework caught up,
and this time of year....gardening as well...
......along with the outside activities I'm involved in,
it doesn't leave much time for sewing.
So these are the blocks I came up with to enter the contest.
They are simple,
but I like the effect each one offers.

This event is hosted by Amy of
During Quiet Time.
Your 12" block needs to be created with some sort of text fabric.
(which I LOVE text fabrics!)

I like to think of this one as a story about the young lady in the center.
The verbiage in the fabric is in French, which I can't read, so maybe it's some
grandiose love letter from a handsome soldier.
Or maybe it's her diary of a broken heart.
Or maybe she's been married forever
and she's just complaining about her husband
leaving his boxers on the floor.
:o)

This next one is a little more fun.
Traveling on Route 66 is on my bucket list.
I think I'll be making this one into a pillow for one of my nephews.
I think they would enjoy dreaming of traveling
along the Route one day.
As for me,
I can see myself driving in a convertible,
the top down,
my hair whipping around,
and just as I scream
"THIS IS THE LIFE!!"
A big 'ol dragonfly
flies right into my mouth.
yep...I can see it now.

So these are my entries.
I even got them done early, because I didn't want to miss
being a participant!

You can check out the competition
by clicking here.
There are so many great entries
and I have to say that I'm really glad I'm not a judge.

But deep inside,
I sure hope I at least make it to the Top 10.
Hey...
if I can dream of dragonflies
slamming into my mouth,
I can dream of being in the Top 10.
LOL

Live on the edge folks!

Friday Night Sew-In

Hey Gang!

Can I just tell you
that my little sewing palace
is such a great stress reliever?

I'm so happy I got home from work in time
to participate in the Friday Night Sew-In.
I try to partipate every month,
just because it's always nice to have a dedicated
time for something that really does my heart well.
(beside sweating to death riding my bike)

The bag I made is one of Melissa's designs
(I so love her stuff!)
You can find it here
If you scroll down on this site a bit,
it's the Movin and Groovin Bag.
I thought I would link the page to all of here goodies,
because she has a ton of great stuff to make!

The fabric I used was Cosmos by Dan Bennett.
You can purchase it from
FabricFascination.
Kym has great fabrics at great prices!
I've always felt that Melissa's designs work well with the fabric Kym carries.
I just wish I had more time to put things together.

Here's the button I used for the bag.
I don't have a lot of fancy buttons to work with
(I think I need to start building a better button stash!)
but this one worked well with the bag.

The pattern doesn't call for a pocket,
so I added one in and made it two compartments.
(this would be great for someone like my sister who is constantly loosing her keys)

This little bag does have a new home it's going to.
My son's girlfriend might have mentioned she'd like a new bag
(I know when to take a hint!)
So when I see her this weekend,
she'll have a nice surprise!

Oh yeah...
....mom....
when you read this,
I didn't forget about your kindle case!
I've ordered the heavy weight interfacing,
so once it's here,
you're next on my list!
(love you!)
And of course,
I'll be using another one of Melissa's patterns to make that as well.
(Melissa...have I told you you'r my hero?)

I hope you all get a chance to find a few hours to do something special just for you.

Much love!!!

Sunday Creation

I worked hard
and
I played hard
this weekend.

We had our family reunion yesterday.
I was there from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
We were having a great time!
I dearly love both sides of my family.
Each side brings something unique
and all of it put together
made a whole bundle of goodness
in my sister, brother & myself.
:o)

Today I went into work for a little over 6 hours.
There's just something to be said for a nice, quiet office.
No phones.
No emails.
Just peace & quiet.
Good concentrating time.
I feel under control.
(OK...that's tonight...ask me again when I get home from work tomorrow night.  LOL)

So tonight I took some time to sew a little something together
with the help our of family cat, K.C.
(short for Killer Cat if you remember me talking about her before)
This little gal never..........
ever...............
forgets when she's been upset with you.
She takes pride in plotting her revenge.
That's what we love about her.
You never know when it's your turn to receive
the wrath of K.C.

Lucky for me, I was in her good graces tonight.
I was able to accomplish this little goodie
that Amy from Amy Made That!
shared on her blog.
(PLEASE don't look at my dirty oven!!)

You can see Amy's towels here.
They are beautiful!
I love the bright colors she used.
I need to make a couple more of these, but
my towel & ribbon supply are a bit sparse.

Here's a close up of the accent fabric.

I don't know the name of it
(it's something I've had in my stash for a while),
but I know it's from Debbie Mumm.

These would make great Christmas gifts!

If you would like to take a hand at this,
lucky for us, Amy found the tutorial on it.
You can find it here.

So thank you, Amy, for giving me a little project
I could accomplish in my small window of free time!
